Sprites, Icons and Filenames

Click HERE to return to the Briefings section.

Note that not all of the sprites are available for use by both the Blue and the Red side. Most of the duplicated ones use the same filename with the first letter denoting the colour, u for Blue and r for Red, but there are a few exceptions. Using uifvp will show a Blue IFV platoon, but rifvp will display the 'keyboard' overlay onto your briefing map. Only the short filenames are shown in the diagrams and the full filename must be in the following form:    images\xxxxx.pcx

Most of these icons are a standard 20 x 20, but the 'deployed Inf Coy' symbols are mush larger at 40 x 80 (or 80 x 40). All the icons shown above have been tested for both sides and if only one filename is shown then that icon is only available for that side. There are some surprising omissions and yet all of the ranged SAM units are available for the Blue side, even though those units don't actually exist in the game. I suspect that the Red 16th Tank, 207th M Rifle and 106th Airborne icons should have been divisional sized units, but the designers forgot to change the size indicators. Both rifvdiv and rmrdb display the same icon, that of a Motor Rifle division. There was probably some work here that Microprose left unfinished.

Higher Formations

These icons are used in the campaign missions and intel briefings, but can be utilised by the player. They take the same form as the divisional icons shown above, but were probably created at a different time. Unlike the icons above which use an 'r' or a 'u' prefix, these icons use 'c' for Corps and 'd' for Division.
